Sharp Object is the creative practice of Zac Neulieb. He partners with brands and agencies to make work that aims for the gut. It’s one point of view and whatever else the work needs. The idea and the execution never change hands. And nothing gets sanded off in between.

About

Most work is fine.

Not bad. Fine. It shows up on time, it says the right things, nobody objects and nobody remembers it. Work gets that way by degrees. Every stop takes a little off, and nothing off ever goes back on.

Zac Neulieb runs Sharp Object Creative Studio. He spent fourteen years at an independent agency. Designer, art director, creative director. All three, and still all three. He can hold the strategy in one hand and the type in the other, so the thing he pitches you is the thing he hands you. Nothing gets safer on the way out.

Call when:

  • There’s a launch, a rebrand, a look that’s stopped working.

  • You need a creative lead and don’t have one, and don’t need a whole agency to get one

  • There’s a pitch in three weeks and nobody to put on it.

  • A project stalled and needs someone who can think and build at the same time.

What it’s like:

  • Fast, and good company.

  • Early looks. Real conversations. No decks about decks.

  • Someone who knows how it gets made, who knows what a “round” is.

  • Your process or his. Nothing to manage.

  • Files come back clean.

But what about typefaces?
Great question. Zac also runs Yeahright Type: a foundry specializing in designing display type with a bite.

What do you sound like?
Here’s a talk I gave to Creative Mornings about the curse and power of being a “dabbler.”
